During the first semester of Sapnish II, we covered vocabulary and grammar structures dealing with our daily routines for getting ready to go somewhere. We also learned what a reflexive verb is. You use reflexive verbs when talking about doing something with or to yourself. For example: “I wash my face.” “Yo levarme la cara.”
Mi Voki de Mi Rutina Diaria
In the third six weeks of Spanish II, we have been creating an avatar on www.voki.com which explains our daily routine that we go through every morning before school. After creating my avatar, I was required to write a script of my daily routine that my voki avatar would say over the internet. We were allowed to take the rough drafts of our scripts to our teacher, where she would read over it, circle the errors, and send us away to correct them until the script was perfect. Next, I had to recite my script aloud to myself several times, practicing pronunciation of the words to get a nice, easy flowing description. When I was confident in my pronunciation, I logged onto my voki account and and had them call me on my cell phone so I could recite my script which recorded onto my voki avatar. I then saved and published my avatar onto my account, sent my avatar to my teacher by eamil, and embeded it onto my blog. This assignment counts as my six weeks test grade.
Thoughts On Voki.com
I really did enjoy this project, it was entertaining and opened up a new door to make such a tedious task enjoyable. I’ve never used the internet in any class as much as I do in Spanish II and I have never created an avatar for any class. I would much rather record my voice over the phone onto an avatar as opposed to making a speech in front of a class. This project definately taught me that learning a new language isn’t only about memorizing vocabulary words, but also about correct pronunciation.
